PANAMA
Our trip starts with a one-night stay in Panama City, a vibrant, modern but tropical ocean front city in Central America. We stay in a renowned high-end four-star hotel after arrival in Panama so we can relax before the five-hour car trip to Palo Seco the next day.
After crossing the impressive Panama channel our trip takes us along the coast to our destination Palo Seco, a small sleepy village on the Pacific coast.
Our headquarters is a wonderful small ocean front guesthouse and restaurant with a terrace overlooking the Palo Seco bay and pier from where the daily fishing excursions start.
We leave at 07:00 after a hearty breakfast on the terrace and head out to several underwater rock structures about one hour away by boat. Depending on wind and current we fish mainly with big poppers and lures to raise big Cubera Snappers from the deep. Strikes happen on the surface and are brutal, several fish following and attacking lure at same time is a common and heart pounding sight. Cubera snappers up to seventy pounds are frequently caught. Fishing for Cuberas closer to the coastline produces by catches of Rooster fish, all kinds of snappers and groupers.
Light lunch, snacks and drinks are served on board, on return to the guest house happy hour drinks are waiting and a full dinner is served every day.
Offshore fishing is mainly trolling for Sailfish or trying to spot surface Tuna action for casting poppers and huge lures. Frequent sightings of dolphins, turtles and whales are expected.
Our trips include six fishing days and two days off in Palo Seco, the package is rounded off with a half day car or van trip around Palo Seco region visiting several beaches and beach bars.
